Blackguards was largely literal, accurate arrangement of the rules and principles of the desktop system The Dark Eye into the language of computer RPG. First of all, this is due to the fact that the plot is more interesting and darker here – it more than justifies the name of the game and the “dark” reputation of the very setting of The Dark Eye. We again oppose the insidious Marwan, who survived after the events of the first part, but now a half -mad wife led to us is being conducted into battle. And that literally, the spiders in the head and a terrible mask on the face.
Under the leadership of the Cassia, we conquer its native lands captured by the evil spouse. In addition to the three old acquaintances from the first part – Nurima, Zurbaran and Takat – in this she is helped by mercenaries from a silent legion, ready to rob cities and make bloody sacrifices. And the Cassia itself does not particularly ceremony in the choice of methods for achieving its goals, although it itself periodically does not really understand what they are. In general, intrigue and reasons to follow the plot more, and dialogs and characters are written better.

Non -linearity also increased. Firstly, the structure of the gameplay itself now has variability now, which is more reminiscent of a strategy on a global map than a classic RPG. On this very map, we choose which of the possessions of Marvan to capture the following: it can be a city, fortress, the palace of his ministry, and so on. Captured three points – preparing to reflect the counterattack on one of the points. And so – the whole game. No side quests in the cities are given to us – here you will not meet the suffering local residents.
However, it was no more boring from this – even the opposite. Instead of helping the inconsolable mothers who have lost their children in the forest and lazy merchants who urgently need to convey something to someone, we are engaged in much more interesting, strategic (and really nonlinear) planning. All points on the map are connected by roads, and they branch, lead in different directions. Accordingly, you are free to go along different routes, focusing on what bonuses every captured city gives – these can be the pluses to the characteristics of your mercenaries, new goods in the shop and even a chance to get a new recruit into the ranks of the silent legion, for example, a magician or killer.
Secondly, new facets of nonlinearity opens up the opportunity to interrogate captive enemies. A separate dialog quest is already beginning here. Try to agree, threaten, make a deal or offer to influence the prisoner of one of the three other main characters. If you choose the right option, it will split and share it with important information – and that, for example, will facilitate the capture of the next city. Otherwise, the prisoner will refuse to speak, and you only have to execute it. Well, or leave to rot in a cage. In general, the situations of moral choice in Blackguards 2 more-at some point, say, you will have to decide whether to allow the mercenaries to rob the cities or not.
More affordable, but not easier
And yet the main dish Blackguards 2 Tactical battles remained and everything connected with them was “pumping” and the selection of equipment. There are different news on this subject.
The assortment of weapons and armor is quite scarce and does not change almost half a game. The role system has become easier, slightly retreating from the canons of The Dark Eye: the character’s characteristics are less, and they almost do not participate in “pumping”. Some skills are frankly useless, but other spells, on the contrary, are many times more effective than others.
Nevertheless, you can still spend hours over the screen of the distribution of glasses between different skills-competent “pumping” is very important here. But the battles themselves became definitely better and more complicated. Maps are more spacious, there are more interactive objects, traps and, accordingly, interesting opportunities-when we will, we will, we fill up enemies with boxes, release aggressive animals from cells, drop some boards with the winch or lure the enemy on a kind of minefield.
In addition, in the second part we are often asked not only to kill all opponents, but to fulfill some special conditions-to bring down the bridge, break five crystals or free the captives and escape. Sometimes you even have to solve riddles with the participation of levers and sharp grilles, on which you can lure enemies. True, sometimes the authors are too much too far from the stick and make us replay the battles again: try to break the same five crystals and leave alive in conditions when you are attacking crowds of huge immortal lizards with the support of powerful magicians!
Finally, special monsters appeared, the creations of Marvan minions. These creatures are not just very large – they know how to jump and fly through half a card, knocking down everyone who is in their way. And if at first we have to exclusively beat them in the face, then we will be allowed to use special melodies to control monsters.
Each item on the map has its own level of complexity, so it is better not to meddle in some places for the time being.

Sometimes the game still slides into a repetition of the same, there are technical flaws and problems with the balance: some battles are solutions, others, on the contrary, are too simple (although there are many times less). The font is still catastrophically small and poses a real threat to the eyes. And in the fights, it is still not possible to increase the speed of moving the fighters, which is why the fights seem to be protracted.
